"A successful test-taker is a prepared test-taker. As both a university instructor and a test prep tutor, I am devoted to helping students master the daunting process of standardized testing. I teach the very best strategies, tips and shortcuts for the SAT, GRE and GMAT. I want each of my students to have the clearest advantage on test day.
For each section of the test, I teach only proven methods for raising a score. For example, by organizing comprehensive word lists into dynamic visual relationships, like a visual thesaurus, GRE and SAT students are able to increase their vocabulary dramatically and efficiently.
Teaching math for any standardized test can easily become bogged down by a mass of tricks students find difficult to remember on test day. So I don't do that! Instead, I keep it clean and efficient, focusing on the fundamentals of problem solving.
For reading comprehension questions, I teach an evidenced-based method of passage analysis that quickly yields the organization and logic of a passage as well as the function of each of its parts.
To achieve a high scoring essay (SAT and GRE), I show my students how to construct a position on the given issue by discussing it from multiple viewpoints. Supporting your position in an essay form becomes intuitive and fluid, and won’t have the artificial and tedious quality of the five paragraph template detested by graders.
Lastly, for all standardized tests, simulated practice tests are a crucial part of test preparation. Beyond their diagnostic value, mock tests are essential for mastering the psychological demands of the test. Along with interpreting results to target specific areas or question types, I work with students to develop (and stick to) an intensive practice test schedule.
I strongly believe that if you know your test inside and out, you'll have all the confidence you need on test day." less...
