"I graduated with an M.A. in Psychology; I've worked as a counselor, psychological associate and a Special Education teacher. After teaching for several years, I stayed home to homeschool my children. During that time, I continued to teach and work with children in various settings: homeschool co-ops, Girl Scouts, 4H, etc. (plus adult ESL students). I taught elementary/middle school in a private school for five years before deciding to tutor full-time. I have successfully tutored students in math (K through College), ELA (including phonics, reading comprehension, fluency, and grammar, and science (K through high school Biology). Although I tutor in many subjects, I most enjoy phonics, ASL, math (elementary through PreAlg) and reading.
My teaching style is flexible depending on the needs of the student. I always try to bring an element of fun to it, as well as praise and encouragement for effort and even the smallest of successes. Lack of confidence is one of the biggest challenges students face. Giving them opportunities to succeed is key to helping them gain self-confidence and helping them see that they CAN do it! I just love those aha! moments when a concept finally clicks for a student! In addition to academic subjects, I am also available to assist you with crochet, cross-stitch, and Bible.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, crocheting, mixed media art, bird watching, photography, and learning just about anything (but, especially ASL and Spanish).
Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about my availability, subject areas that I teach/tutor, or tutoring locations - or to set up a session! I look forward to hearing from you." less...
