"I enjoy working with elementary age students to help them learn to read, improve their reading, or understand and complete their other assignments. I taught my daughters to read when they were young. We worked together learning how to write, how to spell, and how to do basic math and science. We did homeschooling together for kindergarten, first grade, and third grade.

I have also volunteered at elementary schools as a reading tutor. I assisted students in other subjects, too. I have worked with students from first to sixth grades. I am flexible enough to work with a variety of teaching materials and methods. My priority is to help students understand the basics of each subject so that they can build on a good foundation for school success.

My tutoring approach is to focus on the needs and learning style of each student. By getting to know the student I can tailor my teaching methods to fit that student. I taught both of my daughters to read, but they each need a different teaching style, so we used different materials that fit their individual strengths. I always emphasize phonics and comprehension of what is read. I feel that good reading skills and comprehension are the basis of all other types of learning.
