"Hi! My name is Miss Clare, and I have been tutoring for more than half of my life! I absolutely love seeing students transform their school stress into confidence, capability, and enthusiasm for knowledge.

I have taught in schools in California and Arizona since 2020 as a 7th grade homeroom and K-12 academic support teacher as well as a school counselor, and I'm currently a student myself--I'm getting my Masters in Psychology online, and this informs much of the way that I interact with my students!

My undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts was excellent training for tutoring. We learned a little bit of everything, and a lot of it involved Socratic discussion. That's all tutoring is--it's a discussion where I learn how your brain works and what it already understands, and then I help to fill in the knowledge gaps as well as train your brain to eventually be able to solve problems by itself.

I can tutor in most subjects, but I specialize in helping students hone their essay-writing skills. My method is to first provide a simple, clear structure, and then give bite-sized writing tips with every essay so that each one improves in three small ways. Within a few essays, your writing will become organized, direct, and engaging! I've found that this method works particularly well for students who feel as though they never really learned how to write an essay. They end up pouring their thoughts onto the paper and trying to organize after. This is a recipe for confusion! My method works--it works because it's simple, easy to remember, and allows you to make the most convincing argument possible.
