"My name is Mubarak Umar. I consider myself an environmental geographer. I have a M.A. in Sustainability and currently a PhD candidate in Geography and Environmental Science and Policy. My idea of tutoring focuses on problem solving, critical thinking and active learning. This allows for regular feedback, participation, and discussions. I have taught college level courses in a classroom setting like environmental science, earth science over the past 3 years.

My goal as an educator is to always reveal something new to the students regarding the subject matter being discussed and try to relate it to worldly affairs as much as I can. That way, they are exposed to different views on a specific subject. My hope is to lead them to question their current views on what is being discussed. Something I would like to initiate is trying to have more conversations and less lecturing. Also, find more ways to relate the content being taught to every day and real-world activities; that way, the students will have a deeper and greater understanding of the importance of the subject matter." less...
