"Hello! My name is Emily. I graduated from George Mason University with a degree in Biology. I graduated magna cum laude with Honors in my major, as well as a member of the Honors College. During my undergraduate career, I excelled in all my Biology, Chemistry, and Math courses.
I have hundreds of hours experience with both tutoring, teaching, and mentorship. While at George Mason University, I was a Learning Assistant for Calculus II for two semesters. George Mason math classes utilize the active learning and the “flipped” classroom model. As a Learning Assistant, I circulated the classroom facilitating student conversations and answering questions. In addition to classroom support, I also held office hours twice a week where I worked with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. To help students prepare for exams, I would hold large group review sessions where I would do mini lessons and practice problems.
In conjunction with my learning assistant responsibilities, I attended weekly seminars which discussed the best ways to connect with students, as well as be an effective tutor and teacher. As a seasoned tutor, I know that not everybody learns information the same ways and the importance of presenting solutions to suit each students learning style best.
Throughout my career, my knowledge of science concepts has transcended the classroom. I was an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Biomedical Research Lab at George Mason. Additionally, I won a grant to participated in the Undergraduate Student Research Program and complete my own research project. I also completed developed my leadership skills in the Cultivating Opportunity and Realizing Excellence Leadership Program at the Georgetown Medical Center Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
I am currently enrolled at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. I am able to help students prepare for the MCAT.
I am excited to work with you and I cannot wait to get started helping you reach your academic goals." less...
