"Hi! My name is Joanna, and I graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from MIT and a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Northwestern. While in school, although I did not love every subject, the teachers and professors could sometime bring a topic to life that I would not have otherwise appreciated. I also felt that much of my learning came from working on homework with other students, who provided a different perspective and a different way of looking at the topic. In addition, I am a big fan of hands-on learning and feel that the best way to really understand a topic is not by memorization but rather by actively working through and critically thinking about the topic.
I worked as a tutor while in high school, informally tutored many colleagues while in college and graduate school and served as a TA for biotechnology. After graduate school, I have tutored a few elementary and middle school students as well as some adults, and although most of my tutoring experience is in math (ranging from fractions to differential equations), I would also be comfortable to help students with sciences (chemistry, biology and physics) and reading/writing as well as prepare for standardized tests.
I have always been a big fan of math and sciences and want to help students learn to love those subjects too! Please feel free to reach out, and I will always provide fast responses. I am looking forward to working with you!" less...
