"Hello, my name is Serena! I earned my Bachelor of Science in brain and cognitive sciences from the University of Rochester. While there, my focus was on language acquisition and adolescent development. This helped teach me a lot about how children and teenagers learn, and how best to promote their learning.
I am also pursuing my Master of Public Health (MPH) at the University of Rochester, where I maintain a 4.0 GPA. In the future, I hope to use my MPH to fundamentally improve the quality and access to education for children and teenagers.
Most of my educational background lies in math and science since most of my college courses have been in those areas. I have extensive experience with chemistry, algebra, calculus, geometry, and computer science. In addition, I am also well versed in writing skills, such as those featured in SAT and ACT tests.
While my tutoring experience is limited to about 6 months, I have worked with children and teenagers extensively. For just under three years, I worked directly with youth aged 12 to 17 on a research study investigating adolescent development. This involved working with youth for up to 7 hours at a time, which has provided me with many skills that carry over to tutoring. I have also worked with 4 and 5-year-olds as a camp counselor over three summers, including as a head camp counselor.
I am proud to be able to work with different types of students and help them learn in whatever ways work for them. I can be patient, interactive, and flexible in how I deliver tutoring materials. I am excited for the chance to work with you! Please reach out to me with any questions or to schedule a session with me. Thank you!" less...
