"Thanks for viewing my profile! I have been a tutor for ten years, helping High School and College students in subjects such as Chemistry, Biology, Algebra I, Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology. I have assisted with standardized exams such as SAT II in Chemistry, Biology, Science and Math Regents, and A.P Exams in Chemistry and Biology. I also tutor nursing students in classes such as Fundamentals of Nursing, Pharmacology, and Med Surg. Please note, I have taken all the classes I tutor and have gotten As.
Although I have had traditional jobs, tutoring is very rewarding so I come back to it. I approach each student’s assignment as if it’s my own. It gives me great pleasure to have my students succeed.
I have taught in various settings - 1-1 private, groups of students in 4:1 ratio, and classroom (afterschool for middle-high school & college students). This developed my skills in multi-tasking, patience, and mastery in topics. My students have scored in the 90th percentiles or above for the exams I tutored them in and had historically developed an interest in the subject they explored with me. Besides the default learning materials, such as past exam questions, flash cards, textbook, I also use supplemental materials, such as a molecular kit for Chemistry, to illustrate VSPR theory or molecular bonding.
My invented approach – CVP, is explaining concept, introducing variant (exception to the rule), then diving into practice questions. I am a huge fan of these! I have students justify why he or she chose a certain answer to assess whether the rationale is correct.
Currently, I hold a Bachelor's in Psychology with a Statistics minor and am in the Nursing Program at Hunter College." less...
