"As a tutor, my goal is to collaborate with students, helping them cultivate their own strategies to deepen understanding rather than simply providing answers. I encourage students to think critically, whether I’m sharing my perspective on a topic or helping them connect their own ideas. I believe that writing is a craft, and in today's AI- permeated world, students need to first master the rules before they can break them creatively.
I have a deep background in education, having served as a classroom instructor at Oregon’s largest Science and Technology Museum, a trainer for volunteer educators, and a personal tutor. I've worked with elementary, middle, and high school students, focusing on building rapport and trust, setting clear goals, and providing constructive feedback to ensure meaningful progress. My teaching philosophy centers on empowering students to guide their own learning by asking the right questions and engaging deeply with the material.
I graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a major in International Relations and a minor in Rhetoric and Media Studies, earning recognition on the Dean's List and conducting independent research alongside faculty. During my studies, I became fluent in Spanish through immersive study abroad experiences, tackling complex subjects like climatology in a foreign language. My liberal arts education equipped me with the ability to think critically and articulate my thoughts with clarity. Throughout my academic journey, I wrote two thesis papers and countless essays, refining my skills in academic writing.
I'm excited to support students as they strengthen their writing skills and build confidence in expressing their unique voice, both in the classroom and beyond." less...
