"Hi! I’m Marvette. I have always loved tutoring, and my passion for math has fueled my ambition to earn a Master of Science in Mathematics, with plans to graduate in May 2025.

My first tutoring assignment was in high school as an Algebra tutor, and I still find joy in tutoring students of all ages. After graduating summa cum laude with a BS in Accounting and working in related fields for 15 years, I returned to the classroom, spending 8 years in the public school system providing interpreting and tutoring services.

During my 5 years at the high school level, I tutored one-on-one during study periods as well as after school. During standardized test prep events, I was often assigned small groups of up to five students with specific testing goals. Working closely with brilliant, passionate educators and instructional coaches, I developed a tutoring approach that has proven successful.

My tutoring lessons are framed around clear learning objectives. Productive sessions are planned with strategies that introduce, develop, and reinforce the correct application of targeted concepts. I create a safe space where student mistakes are seen as learning opportunities. I either model new processes for success or engage students in techniques that help them discover their own path to the correct answer. I replace old patterns that led to errors with new, successful methods. Sessions are concluded with purpose, and next steps are provided to ensure clarity, understanding, and reinforcement of the achieved objectives.

I have tutored extensively in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Financial Accounting, and Managerial Accounting. I have also tutored in Geometry, Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics. When tutoring, I love discovering what each student needs and meeting those needs in the most creative and memorable way.
