I'm very patient.

I tutor all ages and levels -- from elementary math to graduate level probability and stochastic calculus.

I got my B.A. in math at UC Berkeley and completed my PhD. at the University of Chicago. While being a graduate student, I taught many college level math classes such as Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, and Linear Algebra. I also tutored and volunteered for high school and elementary school students. The most recent tutee of mine used to be so afraid of math -- she got A's from all the other subjects but math. I helped her with her Algebra and Geometry homework once a week, and she got an A at the end of the semester. Her mother tells me that the most impressive result of having me as a tutor for a year is not the improvement in her grades, but her attitude towards the subject. They, her mother and my tutee, were sad that I had to move and asked me to refer a friend of mine who can tutor her like I did. I felt so flattered!

I respect everyone's different learning curve and do not mind at all talking about one problem for an entire session if that's what a student wants. Some years ago, during my office hours at U of Chicago, I had one student who came to my office and ask me about one difficult concept (it was the most challenging concept in the entire calculus curriculum) over and over again. I really appreciated it that she did not give up. I didn't mind at all explaining it until she finally got it. It took many sessions, but it was totally rewarding to both of us.

I also like to give SAT math prep lessons!

I had a student and she had only two weeks to prepare for her SAT math test -- she was getting mid 600's when we first started, but after 10 lessons (yes! we met almost everyday for the two weeks!) she got 770 in her math 2 exam. She got into a great college she wanted to go, and thanked me -- It was such a rewarding experience.
