"Hi there! I'm a life-long teacher and UChicago grad with a B.A. in Economics. Raised in a family with two teachers and owners of a college-prep school in NJ, teaching is a joy and comes naturally! I've been tutoring students for over 10 years in various subjects, including: English Grammar, Writing, Reading, Mathematics (Pre-K through College, up to Multivariate Calculus), Economics, Japanese (through Intermediate college level), and the SAT and ACT tests. I began teaching in a one-on-one after school peer tutoring program at SciCore Academy, an accredited private school. I tutored peers for 7 years there, as well as leading three-week "ESL for Adults" and "Early Reader" intensive boot camps for classes of up to 15 students during the summer. The Early Reader summer programs successfully taught 3- to 5-year old students to read fluently in three weeks using phonics. ESL for Adults focused on improving fluency and literacy of English, typically taking students from a third-to-fourth grade reading and writing level to a sixth-grade reading level through vocabulary drills, reading exercises, and essay-writing. I have been assisting in teaching week-long summer camps in Chemistry, other "hard sciences", and English Composition, Literacy, and Writing for 10 years. In college, I informally tutored peers in Mathematics and English, and coached/mentored students interested in breaking into investment banking. I'm also happy to help with reviewing college essays and giving mock college interviews. In my down-time, I love hanging out with dogs, training in aerial silks/circus arts, and devouring horror/thriller movies.
Mathematics was an essential part of my Economics training, but also the first subject I tutored a student in (a classmate in 6th grade). My specialty is breaking down complex problems into simple, digestible parts. Studying math can get frustrating at times! However, I'm highly adaptable to any learning level and can slow down or speed up the pace according to your needs. I'm always coming up with new wa" less...
