"Hello! I am a graduate of the University of Chicago, where I earned a major in Fundamentals (political philosophy) and a minor in Near Eastern Languages. I also spent a year of undergrad studying English literature at the University of Cambridge in the UK. I graduated with Latin honors as well as honors in my major and am now working in journalism, where I spend my days writing and reading.
I have extensive tutoring experience with a focus on the humanities, writing, and social studies subjects. For the past six years, I have tutored students in middle school, high school, and college in these subjects. At UChicago, I completed HUMA 5000: Pedagogies of Writing, where I further developed my skills as a writing instructor.
I also spent a year tutoring 20-25 UChicago students in pre-calculus and calculus classes, and am passionate about increasing students' confidence when they approach math, especially for young women who are intimidated by STEM subjects or discouraged by ineffective teaching. In addition to my experience tutoring in academic subjects, I also have experience with college counseling, and helped my client secure acceptance to their top choice school, NYU Tisch. I'm enthusiastic about working with arts-oriented students and am happy to guide both students and parents through all aspects of the college application process, from making a list of schools to navigating scholarship applications.
I'm excited to get to know you or your student and discuss a potential partnership. My philosophy as a tutor is based on trust and confidence-building. I know that I have always performed best as a student when my instructors nourished my sense of self-worth and fostered learning environments that were free from shame or insecurity. I hold my clients to high standards, but never make students feel like they can't ask me questions, no matter how "simple" they might seem. Please reach out if you have any questions. I can't wait to get to know you and your learning goals!" less...
