"Hi there! I'm Chasia. I graduated from UCLA in 2019 and received my Master's degree in Teaching ESOL from Columbia University in 2023. I have been a teacher and tutor for 8+ years serving students of all ages in a wide variety of subjects, including ESL, TOEFL/ACT/SAT/GRE test prep, compulsory math, reading comprehension, chemistry, and social studies. As a prior Director of Student Success and Lead Teacher at an education company, I managed the individualized learning programs of hundreds of students and designed curricula to support students' critical literacy development through standardized test prep and content tutoring, while teaching 100+ students of my own in one-on-one and small class settings.
From private tutoring K-12 students and adults, to volunteering as an English conversation instructor for a class of 20 visiting scholars and international faculty at UCLA, to designing and providing alternative solutions for distance learning during the pandemic as a founding teacher at an online middle and high school, to teaching intensive ESL courses to small groups of adults, my extensive and diverse experiences have shaped and refined my approach to teaching. My teaching philosophy is simple — every student is unique, so I prepare my lessons around your strengths, interests, areas for improvement, learning style, and goals. I will make sure that:
- You feel challenged but also feel safe to make mistakes;
- You actively grapple with concepts and new skills in ways that are meaningful and logical to you — and ultimately discover how you learn best;
- You realize that you bring invaluable insight and unique perspective — the classroom isn’t just about the teacher's knowledge!
- You are empowered to take ownership of your own learning; and
- You feel confident to use the tools you gained to continue learning outside the classroom!
Together, we will work as a team to help you achieve your specific goals. Thank you for the trusting me with your desire to learn and grow!" less...
