"Hi! I'm Alex, a UCLA undergraduate studying Materials Science Engineering. I'm also a Regents Scholar (the most prestigious scholar program awarded to the top 75 students out of the 140,000+ UCLA applicants). As my high school’s valedictorian with a 4.82 GPA, a 99th percentile SAT score (a perfect 800 in math), and 5's on both AP Calculus AB and BC exams, I know firsthand how essential top grades are in securing a spot at your dream school. This realization inspired me to become a tutor, dedicated to helping students enhance their academic performance.

Over the past two years, I've gained extensive tutoring experience at my high school’s volunteer drop-in center. I specialized in AP subjects such as Precalculus, Calculus, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. While most of my sessions were one-on-one, I also led small group sessions for 4-7 students during busier times. From my experience, the most effective teaching method begins with a brief overview of the topic, followed by a deeper exploration of key sections. After each lesson, I assess the student's memory by asking questions to practice active recall. This helps identify areas that need further reinforcement, allowing me to adapt my approach to meet each student's specific needs. Once we address and fill those gaps, I have the student complete practice problems, which are essential for reinforcing the material and simulating real test conditions. However, this approach is flexible, as every student has their own learning style. Having completed 12 AP courses, each with teachers who had their own unique teaching methods, I've become well versed in various teaching techniques that caters to all learning styles.
