"Hi, I'm Shayan! I'm currently an undergraduate student at UC Irvine majoring in Software Engineering, B.S. I have extensive experience in STEM related subjects such as Algebra, Physics, and Computer Science. I've previously taught elementary school students coding in Python, so I know how intimidating new concepts can feel for many students, but I firmly believe that with proper guidance and explanation, anyone can grasp any concept. Through this experience, I learned that individualized learning plans for each student are most effective in identifying areas for growth, and I bring this philosophy to my tutoring sessions where I tailor our focus to your specific needs, whether it be help with homework, direct instruction to clarify certain topics, or a combination of both. In my lessons, I provide students with a conceptual understanding of the subject they're learning so they have the confidence to apply it to new scenarios that they have not seen before. This is especially important in subjects like Physics and Chemistry, which contain topics that build on each other as students progress through the year. Having struggled with math previously, I am patient and understanding when it comes to grasping new topics, and I am always open to feedback and constructive criticism.
I specialize in tutoring for AP Physics 1, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Computer Science A (Java), AP Computer Science Principles, SAT Math, and general Algebra.
As for my academic qualifications, I've taken Advanced Placement Examinations (AP) for Calculus BC, Physics 1, Computer Science A, and Computer Science Principles, and scored a 5 on each, which is the highest score possible. I'm also a National Merit Finalist, having scored in the top 99th percentile for the PSAT examination that I took in my Junior year.
