"Hi y'all!
My name is Helene Langlamet. I am an experienced SAT tutor who is pretty new to Wyzant. In 2015, I applied the lessons I was teaching my students to my own GRE prep and got all but one question right on the verbal section of the test.
A few reasons you should work with me:
1) I have personally always scored really highly on standardized tests, and I parlayed this ability to help me transition from Mills College, a relatively obscure college that folded during the pandemic due to financial woes, to a graduate program at the University of Pennsylvania. On the flip side, I also had to navigate the Ivy League PhD circuit for three years with undiagnosed ADHD, so I'll never approach your struggle from a place of judgment.
2) I can also help you with your admission essay. You'll have my personal experience to rely on, but also my graduate training in Rhetoric. I can help you learn strategies for how to write with your admissions committee in mind and how to design your argument.
3) I absolutely LOVE tutoring for the SAT and GRE. I know that sounds tacky, especially since I believe judging the quality of a student based on their answers to a series of arbitrary questions is rather problematic. But I've always approach these tests like a game, and every new student gives me a new opportunity to figure out the best way to crack them. I think my students almost always feel like I care about them, and we usually develop a pretty good rapport.
4) While I was tutoring the SAT in my twenties, I developed a very effective method for raising my students' scores, but did a terribly job documenting my students' progress (*cough* ADHD *cough*). While I work on building up my credentials, I absolutely guarantee you, you *will not* find anyone offering tutoring/coaching at my level for the prices I am offering. Whatever score you think you can get, I feel pretty comfortable promising you that we can make it higher :)" less...
