"I am a registered nurse and nurse educator with over a decade of experience teaching in associates and practical nursing programs. As a nurse, I have worked in a variety of areas, including emergency/trauma, cardiac/telemetry, progressive care, behavioral health, and community health. During the past 11 years, I have tutored adult nursing students in both programs on a variety of subjects in nursing, including medical-surgical topics and pathophysiology. I began as a nursing tutor, working one-on-one with students who were struggling with mastering nursing concepts. Many of my students had regular appointments and I found it rewarding to study with students and celebrate their achievements. I attended every graduation and cheered for my students! I hold a master's degree in nursing education and am in the final stages of earning my PhD in nursing with an emphasis on veteran culture. As a lifelong learner I look forward to fostering a spirit of inquiry in curiosity in our tutoring sessions and assisting you in achieving your aspirations to join me as a colleague in healthcare.
I believe that mastering nursing content means understanding the material and not memorizing. I've tutored and taught in online formats as well as in-person. I have a passion for helping nursing students achieve "lightbulb moments," in which they suddenly understand the concept being taught. When working with students individually I use an approach similar to the nursing process. I begin by gathering data to help me figure out areas that need to be addressed and then work with you to address those areas. By using a team approach, you learn strategies to approach areas you identify as weak in the future. Not everyone learns the same way and I strive to find the best approaches to assist my students to learn in the manner they feel is most beneficial to them." less...
