"I am an MIT-trained chemistry researcher with years of experience teaching chemistry, calculus and biology. I taught a recitation and led classroom demos and exam reviews for two semesters of MIT's notoriously challenging general chemistry course. I taught effectively by making the material accessible to everyone; my award-winning methods included teaching math concepts that were germane to the expression of chemistry, constructing visual aids, and giving problems and solutions.

I also tutored for several years at MIT's homework resource center, the Talented Scholars Resource Room (TSR^2). There, I helped students gain the confidence to drive their learning and confront new problems in biology, chemistry and calculus. I am a biologist too from my earlier training and research experience. That allowed me to help biology students by visualizing how biological experiments unfold in real life, and developing their skill in finding information online. With calculus students, I conferred a spatial/visual understanding of core ideas and helped students to strategize their approach to difficult multi-step problems.

In science, I like to explain things from a physics perspective, i.e., based on the movements of atoms and charges. After all these years, any time I'm learning or teaching, I still follow the advice from my high school AP Biology teacher: "Memorize to Forget; Understand to Remember."
