"I have a PhD in mathematics and a BS in engineering with over 10 years of classroom teaching experience. I taught statistics and calculus at the University of Maryland. Now, I teach at local colleges. I have been tutoring for 25 years. Although I am an expert in mathematics with an extensive and excellent education, my real value as a tutor stems from my natural patience and ability to use Socratic questions to enhance learning. My students all say that I put them at ease and that makes them feel free to learn. I clarify information using a variety methods and explanations. I am the first child in my large extended family to graduate from middle school. From there, I was able to progress all the way to achieving a PhD in mathematics. This inspired many of my family members, including siblings and cousins to follow in my footsteps and also complete college degrees. My son is a doctor in the army, and also has a degree in Biochemical engineering. My daughter graduated from UC Berkeley with an Energy Engineering degree. Now that my children do not need my academic assistance, I am able to share my expertise with other children and adults.
