"Believe you can and you’re halfway there. – T. Roosevelt
The Latin origin ‘docere’ (which means ‘to teach’) of the English word ‘doctor’ meant that I would
naturally be inclined towards sharing my own knowledge and experience with others. Teaching medical
students is an opportunity that has opened my mind to relearn medicine in a new way. Teaching and
conveying an idea to fresh minds was a challenge initially which I overcame by strengthening my own
grasp on concepts. The best part is witnessing a struggling student have an “a-ha moment”. I remember
teaching ACE inhibitors and explaining how they can decrease the GFR. I used bathtub to create an analogy. If we open up the clogged drain, the bathtub eventually empties just like when ACE inhibitors
empty up the glomerulus by opening up the efferent arterioles which leads to GFR drop. These teaching
experiences have led me to the realization that as a teacher, I can have an impact on a person’s life by
influencing their way of thinking.
My passion for teaching accompanies me through out the day. I start my day as a physician where I teach my students and residents. I then teach students at university the subject of pharmacology. In my free time I teach students online and in person different subjects where they need help. I love to help USMLE students. I remember how hard it was to go though all four USMLE exams without tutors. I believe the trick is identifying the weak spots in preparation. I have especially tutored USMLE Step 2 CS for over 1 year in person and now I do it remotely via Skype. CS has become a big challenge for students with dropping passing rate for IMG's in last couple of years." less...
