"Hi there! I'm Anya. I attended Haverford College, a small liberal arts college outside Philadelphia. As an undergraduate, I majored in biology and neuroscience. In addition to my major classes, I took extensive coursework in anthropology, history, psychology, religion, and literature. I did my senior thesis research at the University of Pennsylvania, where I investigated the relationship between psychiatric disease and memory.
I have worked in various laboratory and education settings. At Northwestern University and Haverford College, I held positions as a research technologist. There I taught biochemistry, molecular biology, and research skills to small groups of undergraduate students and mentored students individually. At the University of Florida, I designed and taught a high school biomedical research camp and a teacher professional development program. In this role, I worked with middle schoolers, high schoolers, and teachers in group and one-on-one settings. I have a year of experience tutoring at the collegiate level in writing, literature, political science, and psychology primarily using a digital platform.
My approach as a tutor begins with the student, identifying their needs, abilities, and goals. I present my students with material in the way that is most accessible and engaging for them, be it audio, visual, written, or otherwise. After teaching the material, I engage students in various activities in which they apply their knowledge and give them feedback and further instruction. I welcome input from students and parents regarding the best approaches and resources." less...
