"Hi, this is Badri and I’m happy for this opportunity to share with you my teaching philosophy/style and background.
Student understanding is my top priority. I believe that you only understand something fully when you can explain it to someone else. To this end, I ask probing questions (why a particular step makes sense, what would happen if you changed this to that, etc.) - in short, the Socratic method, to reinforce learning. I believe it is this understanding, along with practice of course, that makes concepts stick, not just for the next exam, but for future classes and life to follow.
A little bit about myself - I came to the US after high school as a 16-year-old on a merit-based full ride scholarship and studied computer science and mathematics at Susquehanna University, a small liberal arts school in scenic central Pennsylvania following which I pursued a master’s in computer science at Duke. After working for a few years in technology, I decided to pursue mathematical finance and completed a master’s in computational finance from Carnegie Mellon University. I believe in life-long learning and recently completed a micro-master’s program from MIT in statistics and data science on edx, an online platform. I am interested in artificial intelligence and machine learning and have studied them in some depth.
I have many hours of tutoring experience on wyzant (across both online and in-person) - I'd appreciate it if you could please do take a look at the student comments and star ratings.
I look forward to working with you on your educational journey!
