"Hello! My name is Andrew, and I am a full-time tutor, writer, and musician. My career has been driven by two fundamental passions: one for the study of History, the other for Music.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, completing three additional majors in Classics & Religious Studies, Medieval & Renaissance Studies, and Classical Languages. I then went on to earn a Master's Degree in Medieval History at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Afterwards, I spent more than 8 years working for a vendor of election tabulation equipment and software, taking a great deal of satisfaction in my role helping history unfold.
From a very early age, music has continuously played a major role in my life. After starting with the saxophone in grade school, my passion quickly turned to the guitar, with which I earned a minor in Music from the University of Nebraska. My musical interests then followed my historical interests, shifting from heavy metal and jazz to traditional Scottish folk music. In due course, I picked up the bagpipes, playing competitively either solo or in pipe bands in the United States, Scotland, and Canada, and have since added the mandolin and piano accordion to my instrumental repertoire.
While working in the election infrastructure industry, one of my favorite duties was training customers to use their ballot tabulation machines and results reporting software. While developing my teaching skills in the high-stakes world of election infrastructure, I discovered that I took great pleasure in my ability to take what I had learned and pass it on to help others succeed.
As an undergraduate, I took so many Latin courses, that I ended up adding a major in Classical Languages, and because it was necessary to properly research Medieval History, it remained a significant part of my course load while pursuing my Master’s Degree.
