I enjoy teaching and have a lot of experience working with students. I am currently a teacher with Truckee Meadow Community College's Community (Adult) Education program. Within that program I organize and teach classes in geology and lead geology field trips. I also teach Japanese language, shibori dye work and sashiko embroidery. I am part of the rotation of part time faculty available to teach formal classes in the Physical Science department and have taught Geology 101 there. I have the qualifications to teach Chemistry 101, too.
I am a certified camping and backpacking instructor with the Girl Scouts.
I believe that a good tutor or teacher will not only teach their students, but will also inspire curiosity and the desire to learn. Memorization and review are important for remembering information but experiments and hands-on work are crucial to developing understanding and enjoyment in all subjects.
During college, I was a proof reader for a computer company; I read their documents and reports and corrected grammar, spelling and diction. I am now using those skills to proof my church's newsletters and publications.
What else can I teach?
I can teach students how to take good notes, cultivate good study skills, research and write papers and give PowerPoint, oral or written presentations.
I can tutor for any of the earth science classes (geology, earth science, physical science, chemistry), teach the scientific method and help with experiments and projects. I am also very good at mapping and field work and can teach or review different techniques in geologic mapping. I know many fun science projects that teach basic science concepts.
I have a broad range of computer r" less...
