"I'm Mike! I graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2012, majoring in finance and accounting. I spent about eight years in traditional finance working as investment analysts at hedge funds and then pivoted to corporate finance roles at tech startups. I'm also a CFA charterholder, having passed CFA exam level 1, 2, and 3, all at the first attempt. I have about 7+ years of experience teaching corporate finance, accounting, and CFA exam prep. I have taught to high school students, college students, and young adults (mid to late 20s) in a small classroom setting (4-5 people), 1-on-1s, and also as part of volunteering programs.
My teaching methods are simple. I always believe that for whatever domain expertise you build throughout your school days and career, your learning curve accelerates only if you gain solid understanding of foundational concepts in that subject matter. I spend a lot of time making sure students understand the fundamental pillars of a topic, in terms of what things are, how they work, why they matter, as well as when/where they are applied. I like to use simple visuals and real-life case studies to enhance understanding - getting bogged down into details with pages of text just doesn't work. And this is where I believe a teacher's creativity comes in - distilling complex information down to easy-to-understand building blocks for students to internalize their learning, without omitting key nuances. I also believe that a critical mind is important in any learning environment. I practice interactive teaching, and encourage students to be critical of long held beliefs, ask questions, and engage in debates. That's also how students better internalize and apply knowledge.
I want to maximize the benefit my students receive from my teaching, and therefore welcome any resources or suggestions from students or parents. I'm easy to reach via email, text, or a phone call. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson." less...
