"I have been a teacher for 20 years, specializing in all levels of Algebra 1, Algebra 2, College Algebra, and Trigonometry. I have also taught middle school grades 7th and 8th. During my career, I have been the team lead for Algebra 1 and also the Department Chair for 6 years. I was recruited into teaching by a fellow colleague who thought I should give it a try. I accepted the challenge and love every minute of it! It hit me like a boulder with the struggles that students had with the content. I wanted to close the gap and increase their joy in math. I wanted to provide them with experiences and real-world applications to understand how math makes the world revolve. I try to excite the students with my personality while building life-long relationships that are meaningful. I want the students to be able to take the concepts and use them as a stepping stone for their greatness.
I love to get to know the scholars before we dissect math concepts. I like to learn about them as a person, their hobbies, and the activities in their life. I start each of my tutoring sessions off with "Good Things" so we can laugh and get to know each other. That goes a long way when it comes to making math meaningful to them. I am presently certified in math 8-12 in the state of Texas. I am also waiting on my certification in Math (8-12) in the state of Virginia (few weeks away).
My faith is my guide to be a better person and to help others. I am married with four magnificent kids ages 10, 11, 21, and 24. They are my driving force in life that keep me on my toes, especially the 10-year-old (comedic-like qualities). I love to play card games, board games, and I’m known as the person “to help put the spots on the dominoes”. The Dallas Cowboys are “America’s Team” and my team also. Life is about these little things called numbers even though they turn into letters at times, LET’S EXPLORE!" less...
