"My name is Nana. I've taught reading and writing for over a decade from elementary to the collegiate level. I have an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Virginia where I taught first year writing as a graduate instructor. Currently, I am enrolled in a PhD in English program at Texas Tech University. As a teacher, I am committed to helping students build their confidence and interest in writing and reading. Writing is thinking, so when we attempt to put our thoughts across in writing, we essentially are teaching ourselves to think in a more logical and coherent manner. Looking back at my own learning experience as a student, I greatly value a supportive and caring environment. As such, I support students to be thoughtful, analytical, and constructive both in writing and in responding to text. Together with my student(s), we will explore literature from around the world and expand our knowledge and the potential of our ideas.

At the University of Virginia, I designed syllabuses for ENCW 2600: Creative Writing (Fiction) and ENWR 1510: Writing and Rhetoric, teaching both in-person and on zoom. Furthermore, I offered career guidance and mentorship to 15 UVA students, receiving appreciation from the UVA Career Center in 2022. Beyond my role as an instructor at UVA, I have taught several writing courses online. Serving as a UN Volunteer, I taught writing in schools across Ghana. Additionally, from 2014 to 2019, I facilitated the annual Gird Writing Camp, a growth and support facility that assists creative and entrepreneurial young people to build skills for writing and influencing in the creative, business, and academic environments. I am a winner of the $15,000 Henfield Prize for Fiction (2022). My work has appeared in thirteen anthologies including: Relations: An Anthology of African and Diaspora Voices. HarperCollins; and Lusaka Punk & other Stories, Caine Prize Anthology 2015. I look forward to exploring the world of writing and literature with you." less...
