"Elite Arabic Training:

After double majoring in philosophy & Arabic at Georgetown University—home to one of the country’s most prestigious Arabic programs—I was awarded the highly selective, Harvard-funded CASA Fellowship.

Fellows received advanced training in Modern Standard Arabic at the Qasid Institute in Amman. My studies also encompassed Arabic poetry, Levantine Arabic, Arabic literature, & Syrian history. I also (in Arabic) lectured English literature students at the University of Jordan & participated in Arabic debate competitions on topics ranging from politics to bioethics.

Eastern Training & Native-level Pronunciation:

Beyond the Western academy, I've also studied Classical Arabic grammar/syntax, morphology, & rhetoric via traditional, Eastern methods; attended public school in an Arab country in childhood; & received formal training in the science of Arabic pronunciation/elocution (tajwid).

Classroom & Curriculum Experience:

I have taught a wide range of students (elementary to university) & worked extensively in curriculum development, including as department director at a selective Bay Area private school.

Cultural Knowledge:

In addition to my formal study of the region’s history, having lived & traveled extensively across the Middle East allows me to draw upon, not only linguistic proficiency, but a great deal of real-world cultural & historical depth as well.
