"Hi, I’m Em! I hold two Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Clinical/Community Psychology and in Political Science. I also earned a minor in LGBTQ+ Studies. During my undergraduate education, I was able to greatly advance my close reading skills while working with a wide variety of texts. In expanding these reading skills, I was able to become a stronger writer and communicator, with more nuanced and developed ideas.
Now, as a graduate student pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Counseling, I rely on these foundational abilities as I progress in my knowledge in human development, research methods, and ethics.
I have about 3 years of tutoring experience. I’ve worked in a tutoring center at a local community college, helping students with remedial math in a one-on-one context, returning education students with algebra in small groups (2-3 students), and offering supplemental tutoring to a small pre-calculus class (about 5-6 students). I also have experience working and volunteering with early elementary and middle school students in a one-on-one setting.
