"I’m a graduate of Boston University’s Master’s in journalism program and currently work for USA Today. My undergraduate education was in English and Anthropology. My areas of expertise in tutoring (and general!) include writing, public speaking, literature, grammar, journalism, and English. I’ve tutored a range of students, from a special ed college student, to high schoolers, and even a senior hoping to improve her public speaking skills. While at BU, I worked as a discussion facilitator/TA, which involved giving students feedback on their assignments and leading the weekly discussion section. This makes me better able to anticipate what teachers and TAs are looking for in college level homework and assignments.
I’ve done extensive public speaking, and tutored a student in the area virtually and in person in summer 2020 to prepare her for virtual and/or in-person classes. I am a hands on tutor, and like to work with students collaboratively, rather than just telling them how to fix something. Sometimes brainstorming together yields a better result than working alone! I love all stages of the learning and writing process. From generating ideas for how to move forward with (or start) a project, to honing the finishing touches and language in an essay. I am detail oriented, patient, and always happy to explain. If one explanation or example doesn't make sense, I'll find another way of framing a topic or answering a question until the student feels comfortable and as though they truly grasp the information. I like to develop relationships with students I tutor so that they feel comfortable asking anything and everything about a subject or assignment.
Please contact me if you have any questions. I love working with students and my favorite thing is building your confidence!" less...
