"Helping people to improve their writing is my passion and mission! I want to encourage people to have a positive relationship with writing!

As an English professor for 32 years, I have focused on teaching students to write academic work, business writing, and creative non-fiction work in ways that help students see the importance of improving their communication practices. I have extensive experience teaching a range of students, from high school students (who are dually enrolled) to graduate students. I work actively with first-year undergraduate students who are taking the required writing courses, helping them to see the relevance of what they are learning in their writing courses to their larger life circumstances. I teach upper division students who are learning to write effectively in their specific majors. I also mentor graduate students who are working on their Master's degrees and PhD's as they develop and conduct their own academic research. I have also tutored people who are preparing to take the Bar exam, helping them prepare for the writing portion of that exam.

My approach is to help students develop their writing style in order to be successful in achieving their own goals and in meeting the requirements of their writing task. I love working one-on-one with people who want to improve their writing and composing skills, and I see my role as being that of a mentor and guide. Not everyone writes in the same way, so my goal is to work with people to help them better develop their own practices.

In addition to my teaching and mentoring experiences, I have also conducted research on the best approaches to teaching writing and have published my research in prominent academic journals.
