"Hello! I’m excited to start tutoring with you. I come from a family of teachers, so becoming a teacher myself was like joining the family business. It started with swim lessons and led to working at the writing center at Lake Forest College in Illinois for two years. As a writing tutor, I learned how to help clients write complex and rigorous academic essays, but I also realized how fulfilling it was to help my clients improve their writing skills. My love for writing, literature, and teaching all coalesced with this experience, and I soon graduated from Lake Forest College with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and continued my education to obtain a Master’s in Teaching. I completed my educational fieldwork in both the 8th grade and high school Language Arts classrooms throughout the Chicago area. Then, I moved to Colorado to work at Euclid Middle School in Littleton Public Schools, where I currently teach 8th grade Language Arts.
While I draw from my instructional and literary knowledge during tutoring, I still utilize the tutoring style I developed while working at the Lake Forest College writing center. My main goal is to help my client succeed on their assignment while teaching them strategies and skills to succeed on their own. I start each session by being responsive to the assignment and the teacher, reviewing prompts, instructions, and any background knowledge before diagnosing what aspect of the assignment needs to be addressed during the session. Then, we utilize resources and strategies to focus on this part of the assignment, which takes up the bulk of our time. We end the session once my client can use this resource or strategy individually before creating a plan to complete the next steps of the assignment.
Please contact me with questions or if you would like to schedule a lesson. I can meet virtually or in person if preferred." less...
