"I’m Frank! I’m a B.A. in journalism with a minor in sociology from Hofstra University, looking to start tutoring high schoolers and middle schoolers in writing composition and English. I grew up in Seattle and went to high school at the Bush School.
l was lucky in that time to have excellent English teachers who nurtured my interest in the humanities and helped me become technically adept. In college I majored in journalism and learned newswriting and reporting, but I most enjoyed my English and Sociology classes, where long-form essays required me to think deeply about both subject matter and structure. My favorite part was the peer review process, when my classmates and I could help each other improve our writing with visible results.
I excelled in humanities classes through high school and college, and I’d like to help other students do the same by teaching them about reading comprehension, proofreading, and essay structure. Writing composition doesn’t come easily to everyone, but there are simple skills and steps that make it less daunting. By learning these and by keying in on what interests them about their course material, students can break long essays down into engaging tasks.
