"I believe that every student can learn math deeply and broadly with the appropriate practice and guidance. No one is “not a math person,” only “not a math person yet.” My goal as a tutor is to help you develop confidence and independence in problem-solving. I will help you replace habits of bottom-line memorization by process-oriented tools for understanding math deeply and applying what you know to any scenario you come across.
I have over a decade of experience tutoring and teaching the full range of advanced high school math and early college math, including precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, intro to proofs, discrete math, and optimization / operations research. Much of my experience has been working with advanced middle-school and high-school students.
I have a longstanding involvement with competitive math—both as a contestant and 6 years as coach of the Western PA ARML team. I have coached and competed in AMC 10/12, AIME, USAMO, ARML, PUMaC, HMMT, and many other competitions. Some of my career highlights are qualifying for AIME (x6) and USAMO (x3), being the state winner for AMC 10 and 12, and placing 7th in PUMaC in combinatorics. I love the creativity and elegance of competitive math problems and I continue to enjoy solving the problems from these competitions each year.
My mathematical expertise is in probability, discrete math, optimization, and computer science theory. I am also particularly fond of geometry, calculus, analysis, and measure theory. I have also done advanced courses in abstract algebra, logic, topology, differential equations, and complex analysis. My undergraduate GPA in math courses was 3.9/4.0." less...
