"Hi there! I've been editing and tutoring for 7+ years, ever since I graduated from Yale (cum laude, double majoring in history and film). I then went on to obtain an MFA in screenwriting from USC. Throughout all this time, I have worked as both an independent and contract tutor with various companies, helping students of all ages: middle and high school, college, and MBA and grad-level students (as well as ESL/international students).
I can help with a variety of writing forms: application / admissions essays, research or argumentative essays, creative writing / screenplays (my field of graduate study), and the English / writing sections of the SAT/ACT. Aside from typical application editing, my storytelling background allows me to help students discover and shape their personal stories, which are key to college and graduate admissions. My passion for editing and tutoring dates back to my time as the sports editor for Yale's student newspaper, which granted me years of experience editing, providing feedback, and nurturing others' writing.
It's important to me that the student understands the reasoning behind the feedback, and I always prioritize overarching, structural feedback before the small stuff (grammar). I also love to use examples, whether it be online resources or example writing, and I adapt my approach to a student's needs, learning style, and age.
While I work efficiently, I pride myself on being easy-going and lighthearted -- it's really important to me that sessions feel relaxed and conversational. Alternatively, I also provide offline/asynchronous editing for students who don't have time to meet, and would just like their writing edited/reviewed. Feel free to contact me with any questions!" less...
